The Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS) serves as the primary technical visionary for the Trailhead digital learning platform, driving the biggest shift in software since the cloud. You will provide high-level technical direction for a distributed engineering team, ensuring the architecture scales to serve millions of global learners. As the Tech Leader for Agentic Workflows, you will set global standards for integrating AI tools like Gemini and OpenAI into the core Trailhead architecture. The platform's foundation is built on Ruby on Rails, Node.js, and React deployed on Heroku, and you will lead the strategic evolution toward more modular, high-performance web standards. Key responsibilities include defining the long-term technical roadmap for scalability and performance, leading the design and documentation of complex multi-system architectures, and serving as the final authority on major technical decisions. You will champion emerging agentic tools and frameworks to multiply team output, drive strategies to minimize technical debt, and establish organizational standards for testing, code reviews, and CI/CD processes. A significant portion of your time will be spent teaching design concepts (SOLID), refactoring skills, and performance techniques to elevate the entire engineering staff. You will collaborate closely with Product Management and Engineering leadership to prioritize backlogs and navigate technical dependencies.
